You ended up here, which means you are well on your way to a healthier and happier you! Juicing is a very simple act. But, there are little tips and tricks to make sure you are getting the most out of your juicing experience.
This is an extremely important part of juicing, and not just because you can’t really juice without a juicer (you can, but it takes a long time). Juicing fresh fruits and vegetables produces what is called “live enzymes.” These enzymes are essential to healing and detoxifying your body. In order for them to remain “alive” they cannot be exposed to much heat or oxygen.
Juice should be completed consumed in 20 minutes or less. Many people disagree with this, but enzymes die at a fast past when exposed to oxygen so the sooner, the better. This also means juice need to be prepared fresh every time.
Juicers run on motors and some motors run hotter than others. Finding a juicer that doesn’t get hot enough to kill the enzymes is crucial. I use the Breville Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juicing Machine, 13 x 18. It is about $150 and is easy to clean. If a piece breaks, it is easy to buy a replacement.

Next, you want to go food shopping. I always recommend organic, but understand some budgets don’t allow for it. That is fine. Just make sure you peel off the skin and thoroughly wash it. The pesticides can seep inside the produce since they are sprayed constantly, but taking off the outer skin will reduce the amount you consume.
You want to make sure that you are only using 25% fruit. There is a lot of sugar in fruit, and though it is natural, too much of it can spike your blood sugar. I usually use one apple and half of a lemon in all of my juices.
When I was just starting, I used about 40% fruit. The sweetness made me like the juice better. Slowly, over time, I would phase out half a piece of fruit here and there until I got used to the 25%.
